The rent-charge / leasehold saga grinds on.
Labour MP Justin Madders welcomes some of the proposals being tabled but rightly asks about those homeowners who have already been saddled with these difficult-to-sell leases.
He is proposing a compensation fund similar to PPI.
Banks have already paid out £28bn under the PPI scheme since 2011 which is a truly extraordinary sum.
I doubt the leasehold "scam" - to use Madder's frank term - will hit these levels but watch this space.
All to play for and I have no doubt there will be many nervous players in the property sector right now.
Labour MP and leading leasehold reform activist Justin Madders has secured a second reading of a Bill that aims to introduce a compensation scheme for existing home owners suffering from unfair leaseholds. He described leaseholds as a “scam”, with possible compensation being the “PPI of the house-building industry”.
