This is a great article
Turns out buying time saving services (cleaners, nannies, gardeners) makes us happier than buying stuff.
There is a catch.
Even though people feel better when they spend money to free up time, they often don’t choose to do it.
Turns out people feel guilty at paying someone to do their tasks. You should have a different mindset. You are providing them with an opportunity to earn some money.
The article for me however misses the big picture.
It makes the point we have less time these days but does not ask why?
Surely it is because tax is now so staggeringly high compared to 50 years ago.
People feel happier when they pay to save time than when they buy something nice for themselves. Those are the results we found in a series of recent studies. Spending on things like housecleaning services or grocery delivery left people feeling more satisfied than spending on things like new clothes and wine. The findings held true for people in different countries, and at different income levels.
