Cyber attacks do seem to be the rage so there is no reason to be surprised that hotel groups are to be immune.
InterContinental had 1,200 US based franchisees affected in a three month period at the back end of last year. The malware in question was designed to steal guests' credit card information.
Given how quickly these issues can develop and the rapid press attention it garners I would guess that cyber security is likely to be an upper concern for hotel groups.
You only have to look at the furore over the latest ransom-ware attack which went global to see how quickly matters can get out of hand.
Global hotel chain InterContinental Hotels Group P.L.C. said a third of its franchised properties in the United States were hit late last year by malware that can steal guests' credit card information.
